Florence Knoll is an architect, interior decorator, furniture and textile designer. She studied architecture under Mies van der Rohe. In 1940 she worked with Walter Gropius and Marcel Breuer. She married Hans Knoll in 1946 and founded Knoll Associates which was soon to become one of the most important firms of the second half of the Twentieth Century. Florence Knoll ran several departments designing furniture, putting her signature on interior fittings for exhibitions and buildings. Other designers who worked alongside her include Harry Bertoia, Eero Saarinen and the Bauhaus designers.
